The Baker SW series is a range of general-purpose centrifugal pumps that are commonly coupled to electric motors and diesel engines via a spacer coupling. They are designed and built for long service and low maintenance in a wide range of ‘clear liquid’ applications.

Economical, reliable and convenient

The Baker long coupled pumpset with its back-pull-out design enables the pump rotating unit to be removed without disturbing the pipe connections. Using a spacer-type coupling, the prime mover, i.e. the motor or engine, is also undisturbed. This advantage reduces service time resulting in lower maintenance costs and reduction in production losses.

Baker long-coupled pumps boast the economy, reliability and the convenience of being designed and manufactured to one of the world’s most widely accepted pump standards, DIN 24255/EN733.

long coupled pumps are easier to service due to the provision of the spacer coupling. allowing work to be performed on the pump and/or motor with disrupting the other and the pipework.

There are 2 simple things you can do whilst your pump is in operation, to determine if your pump is cavitating or not. If the needle on the pressure gauges on the suction and discharge pipework are unstable, this generally indicates the presence of air in the pipework. Another test you can perform is to completely close off the discharge valve. If the noise changes or disappears, this is also a good indicator of air being present in the pipework. It is important not to leave the pump operating against a closed head for more than 5-10 seconds, and in doing so, this should be done by a competent and trained engineer or pump technician. This advice is general only, and we recommend consulting with a Masterflow engineer for further guidance.
While both have their pros and cons mechanical seals are more commonly used in modern day pumps, as they are much more durable and are designed to have multiple sealing points to eliminate any leaking issues, making them a better choice for long term operation of your pump.
Repairing or replacing a pump mechanical seal should only be performed by experienced pump technicians. Care must be taken when fitting a mechanical seal and reassembling the pump, to ensure correct fitment within manufacturer tolerances, and that the seal faces are in the right order.
