Sidestream filtration refers to the partial filtration of liquid in a system. In cooling water systems, this is generally sized on 5-10% of the total cooling tower water flow rate. King Street Wharf Precinct

The King Street Wharf precinct, which is the area bound by Lime, Shelly & King Streets Sydney houses a range of commercial offices, Highrise hotel and several restaurants of various cultures. In preparation of the Bicentennial Celebration, the NSW embarked on a huge redevelopment of Darling Harbour which included the King Street Wharf (KSW). Work begun on this area in the mid1990s and was completed in 2000. Like many harbour front commercial properties, the sea water is used as the means of Heat Rejection. Pumps were installed in numerous basement plant rooms that serviced the mechanical requirements of the buildings within the precinct.

Main principles to consider are as follows. – SSF Unit help promote the mixing of water treatment chemicals. – As filtered water gets pumped back into the cooling tower via eductor nozzles, the water is constantly being agitated, which is an ideal environment to prevent bacteria growth. – SSF unit helps remove sediment that builds up within the cooling tower basin and sump. – You can run a single SSF unit between 2 or more cooling towers via the use of a balancing line.

Side stream filtration of a cooling tower definitely reduces the risk of possible HCC and Legionella detections especially when you return the filtered water back to the cooling tower basin via agitation nozzles. What the nozzles do is minimise “dead spots” in the basin where bacteria can grow and the secondary benefit is that the agitated environment mixes the chemicals.
The Rinse Controller is basically the “brain” of the filter. Ir is a pilot operated diaphragm valve that senses inlet and out let pressure across a diaphragm. When the pressure drop (DP) across the filter increases I pushes the diaphragm against a spring. At about 50kPaDP this will actuate a backflush or cleaning cycle by opening the flush valve to drain.
