How air is generated
“In chemistry, Henry’s law is one of the gas laws, formulated by William Henry in 1803. It states that: At a constant temperature, the amount of a given gas dissolved in a given type and volume of liquid is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas in equilibrium with that liquid. Or solubility of a gas in a liquid at a particular temperature is proportional to the pressure of that gas above the liquid.” The 3 types of air that exist in a system are:
- Free air – air that generally accumulates at the high points or dead ends of a system. It is air you can ‘see’.
- Microbubbles – entrained air bubbles that over extended period of time and through extensive commissioning practices, eventually become free air. The greater the velocity of the system, the less chance of microbubbles transferring to free air.
- Dissolved air – microbubbles not visible to the naked eye. Essentially a gas, that only morphs into microbubbles as the pressure is reduced in a system.
The air chamber of Optivents are designed to remove both free air and microbubbles. For the removal of dissolved gases, refer to the Masterflow Vacuum Degasser system.
Air removal is simple and takes place as the water enters a vertical chamber. This breaks the velocity in the water, and as the microbubbles collide with the internal stainless concentrator, they coalesce to form larger bubbles. The natural consequence is these inflated air bubbles rise to the top and discharge via the automatic air vent installed on the top of the Optivent.
Dirt Removal
Dirt is the enemy of all HVAC capital equipment, and must be removed. The design of the dirt chamber on an Optivent works in a similar fashion to the air chamber, in that the break in velocity as the water enters the vessel causes anything heavier than water to sink to the bottom. A simple test to verify if the Optivent will remove dirt particles is to put some into a jar and see if it sinks to the bottom. If it doesn’t sink, this is classified as suspended solids, and additional filtration is necessary for its removal – refer Masterflow Filtration…

We recommend high-flow products for productivity which is longer than standart products.
Mentally, there is not a problem if you use standard product in high-flow installation but the separator can not work properly. For example; If you minimize the air to “0” after 200 circulation and filter all dirts with the high-flow product in 3m/s system, standard product may do these after 700-800 circulation. Because of water speed, dirts and fresh water may enter and quickly exit from the air & dirt separator. So, dirts can not fall to the bottom when water pass on dirt separator. *Given circulation numbers are just an example.
